Budanov considers deployment of peacekeepers dubious security guarantee
The head of the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense, Kyrylo Budanov, considers the deployment of peacekeepers a dubious security guarantee for Ukraine. He said this about Budanov in an interview with journalist Eynulla Fatullayev, published on February 18, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"Show me at least one country in the world where the deployment of peacekeepers worked... Maybe there is one somewhere, but I don't remember such a case. I was wondering if I've looked into many examples. Nowhere. So can this be considered a guarantee? Obviously, it's doubtful. Well, let's just say it's doubtful," he said.
Budanov considers the issue of security guarantees to be very debatable.
"What is a guarantee is a very debatable issue. Since the NATO issue is very complex. Let's call it that diplomatically. Is there any other format that would provide a guarantee, not a declaration of something, not a hope for something, but a guarantee. I think there is no such format yet. Perhaps this is something from a series like the status of a number of states - the main US ally outside of NATO, but again - this is no longer a question of security guarantees, but a question of obligations to support the state, but nothing more."
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Budanov believes that Ukraine will manage to achieve a ceasefire in 2025.
Zelenskyy considers NATO security guarantees for Ukraine to be the cheapest for Europe, the USA and the russian federation.
Regarding the possible number of peacekeepers in Ukraine, Zelenskyy believes that this should depend on the size of the Ukrainian army.
