Britain actively expanding its influence in Europe through creation of number of regional alliances - expert
Currently, there is a growing role of Great Britain as a leading player in European security against the backdrop of the US distancing itself from European affairs. This is written by Bohdan Popov, an expert from the United Ukraine think tank, in his article "Is the Empire Returning? Due to the distancing of the States - Britain is taking control of Europe"
According to the expert, Britain is actively expanding its influence in Europe through the creation of a number of regional alliances and the conclusion of strategic security agreements. Popov pays particular attention to cooperation with the countries of Northern Europe, Poland and Ukraine, which were formed even before the start of the full-scale russian invasion.
A significant role in strengthening British influence is played by the country's historical status as a "senior monarchy" in Europe, which allows it to effectively interact with other European monarchies, in particular Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands and the Scandinavian countries.
The recent summit of European leaders, initiated by British Prime Minister Starmer together with French President Macron, was another confirmation of London's growing role. The summit's agenda included issues of European security and further support for Ukraine.
The author of the article notes that against the backdrop of the US's uncertain position on supporting Ukraine and the American President's readiness to make concessions to russia, Great Britain may turn into the central coordinator of the anti-russian coalition in the region.
"From a skeptical ally within the EU, Britain is increasingly regaining the role of a powerful force with its own initiatives and partners," Popov writes.
In his opinion, London's role in the confrontation with russia will continue to grow, especially as long as Ukraine remains the epicenter of this confrontation.
Earlier, the expert emphasized that the geopolitical axis London-Kyiv-Ankara is gaining increasing importance against the backdrop of changes in the European and transatlantic security system.
