MPs block signing of law on purchase of reactors for Khmelnytskyi NPP from Bulgaria

Members of the Rada blocked signing of the law, which would allow the Energoatom national nuclear energy generating company purchase equipment (nuclear reactors and components) from the National Electric Company of Bulgaria for the construction of power units at the Khmelnytskyi NPP.

This is stated in draft resolutions Nos. 11392-P, 11392-P1, 11392-P2, 11392-P3, 11392-P4, 11392-P5, 11392-P6, 11392-P7, 11392-P8, 11392-P9, 11392-P10, 11392-P11, 11392-P12, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

All registered resolutions propose to cancel the Rada's decision of February 11 on the permission to purchase reactors.

Among the authors of the draft resolutions are: co-chair of the European Solidarity faction Iryna Herashchenko, MP from the Holos faction Inna Sovsun, and head of the Smart Politics inter-faction association Dmytro Razumkov.

Until the draft resolutions are considered at the Rada meeting and "failed" in the vote, the Speaker of the Parliament will not be able to sign the adopted bill and submit it to the President for signature.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Verkhovna Rada granted permission to the Energoatom national nuclear energy generating company to purchase equipment (nuclear reactors and components) from the National Electricity Company of Bulgaria for the construction of power units at the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant.

The Holos and European Solidarity factions did not cast a single vote for the relevant decision.
