Zelenskyy's joke about Klitschko was low-down and harmed Ukraine - Honcharenko
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's statement about Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko looked petty and harmed Ukraine's image. It demonstrated that the President's words are at odds with his deeds.
This was stated by Ukrainian MP Oleksii Honcharenko, who is in Munich as part of the Ukrainian delegation.
"Just now, in his speech, the President of Ukraine spoke for a long time about unity, and then crossed it all out with one statement. Let me remind you that in response to a question about the political situation in the country and Klitschko, Zelenskyy joked quite nervously and sharply: "I know that Klitschko is a good athlete, but I didn't know that he was also a speaker."
It's a pity that the reaction of the audience was not visible on the video. It was very eloquent. The President clearly showed that for him unity exists only on the pages of his speeches. In actions, everything is radically different," Oleksii Honcharenko wrote.
The MP stressed that this joke damaged the image of Ukraine.
"Munich is the attention of the whole world to Ukraine. And no matter how you treat Klitschko, no matter how you try to destroy him as a political opponent, you cannot stoop to such a low and petty thing. This humiliates you as a leader, it humiliates us as a country," Honcharenko said.
He also noted that the statement concerned a person who is treated with respect all over the world.
"Klitschko is known all over the world, especially in Germany. He is a super important channel of communication with Germany in the fight against russia. So, instead of using this channel, as was done at the beginning of the war, we are shocking Europe with this petty hatred and desire for revenge," Honcharenko stressed.
It was previously reported that since 2019, over 1,000 cases have been launched against the Kyiv authorities, of which only a few have reached court. Others have collapsed because they were fabricated.
