Putin will go to negotiations only to destroy Ukraine. MP reacts skeptically to Trump's speech
A Verkhovna Rada member from the Servant of the People faction, chairman of the parliamentary committee on foreign policy and interparliamentary cooperation, Oleksandr Merezhko, is convinced that russian dictator vladimir putin will go to peace negotiations only to completely destroy Ukraine.
He told journalists about this, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"We understand Ukraine's interests, they are very understandable, clear, that is, we need to survive, guarantee our security and return our territories. Putin has a completely different goal - the destruction of Ukraine. If he even agrees to some option or format of negotiations and reaches some agreement, then it will be only if it allows him to create the necessary prerequisites for the complete destruction of Ukraine," the head of the committee believes.
Merezhko expresses deep skepticism about the possibility of real negotiations with russia.
The MP is not sure that U.S. President Donald Trump will be able to convince putin to change his position and warns that there are people in Trump's entourage who believe that the issue of Ukraine is not a US security issue, and therefore it should be transferred to Europe. Merezhko emphasizes that this is a wrong approach, since the issue of Ukraine is a security issue not only for Europe, but also for the U.S. and the whole world.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, is convinced that Ukraine, as a victim of russian aggression, should determine the terms of negotiations to end the war.
