Ukrainian team wins 16 medals in winter disciplines at Invictus Games
At the Invictus Games, which were held in Canada, Ukrainian veterans and servicemen won 16 medals in five winter sports. Among the awards are 6 gold medals.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine and Invictus Games: Team Ukraine reported this.
Ukrainian athletes competed in alpine skiing, snowboarding, biathlon and skeleton, and ski racing.
Gold for Ukraine was won by:
Biathlon:
- Oleh Omelchuk (category IBI4 — Open) — competition among athletes with varying degrees of impairment.
- Ruslan Serhiichuk (category IBI3 — Visually Impaired) — competition among athletes with visual impairments who perform together with guides.
Ski racing:
- Anatolii Byrko (category INO4 — Open) — an open category for athletes with varying degrees of impairment.
- Volodymyr Marchenko (category INO2 — Standing Ski) — a competition among athletes who can stand but have musculoskeletal disorders.
Alpine skiing:
- Serhii Hordiievych (category IAS1 — Sit Ski) — a competition among athletes who compete while sitting due to musculoskeletal disorders.
Each member of the team took part in at least one of the five winter sports, although at the beginning of January most of them had never stood on skis or snowboards, the Ukrainian team of the Invictus Games said.
Recall that on the opening day of the Invictus Games-2025 in Canada — February 9 — Ukraine held its first match. It was a meeting with Colombia in the wheelchair basketball tournament, which ended in a victory for the Ukrainians.
