Israel also withdraws from UN Human Rights Council

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar has announced that his country is withdrawing from the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). His announcement comes hours after U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order to withdraw the country from the UNHRC.

Saar made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, February 5.

"Israel welcomes President Trump’s decision not to participate in the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC). Israel joins the United States and will not participate in the UNHRC," Saar wrote.

According to him, the reason for this was that the UNHRC "has traditionally protected human rights abusers" and "obsessively demonizes" Israel.

He added that instead of promoting human rights, the UNHRC has allegedly focused on attacking Israel and promoting anti-Semitism.

Saar recalled that Israel is the only country to which a separate item on the UNHRC agenda is dedicated.

Recall that on February 3, Politico reported, citing sources in the White House, that U.S. President Donald Trump is going to withdraw his country from the UNHRC.

As it became known on Tuesday, February 4, Trump did indeed sign the corresponding decree, terminating U.S. participation in the organization.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on February 5, Trump proposed taking the Gaza Strip under American control.
