Suspension of US aid to Ukraine in social sphere is not yet critical - Zholnovych
Suspension of US aid to Ukraine in the social sphere is not yet critical.
This was stated by the Minister of Social Policy Oksana Zholnovych during the presentation of the results of the work of the Ministry of Social Policy for 2024, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"In fact, it has not (had an impact) much yet. We have a large number of agreements with partners from Europe, in particular with the UK, the World Bank, where support is systematically provided. Well, this suspension does not apply to large projects that are included in the budget, it concerns support for the public sector," she said.
Zholnovych noted that some social projects in Ukraine are financed with resources from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), but taking into account the fact that there are a large number of other partners, the situation is not yet critical.
She also added that today the Ministry of Social Policy is still figuring out which contractors this funding suspension will apply to.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the USAID Ukrainian office received an order to suspend the implementation of all projects.
On January 20, Donald Trump was sworn in as the US President for the second time. Immediately after taking office, Trump signed a number of high-profile decrees, in particular, on the temporary suspension of all US foreign assistance programs for 90
The Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council denied that Trump's suspension of US international assistance concerns military assistance to Ukraine, noting that Trump's decree concerns international assistance within the framework of "Development Programs", which relate to the activities of UN agencies, peacekeeping initiatives, and refugee support programs.
