Congress confirms Trump's election victory
The United States Congress has officially confirmed Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 presidential election. Trump will be sworn in on January 20, after which he will officially be considered the 47th President of the United States.
This was reported on Monday, January 6, by CNN.
"Congress has officially certified Trump's victory in the presidential election, and the counting of the Electoral College votes went smoothly, without any objections or disturbances," the journalists noted.
During a special session of Congress, current US Vice President Kamala Harris, who led the process as President of the Senate, announced the certification of the count. At the same time, she emphasized the importance of protecting American democracy.
"Under the law, this declaration will be considered final or, from a legal point of view, will be considered a sufficient declaration of the persons elected as president and vice president," CNN explained.
Trump and Ohio Senator J.D. Vance won the election, gaining 312 electoral votes. Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, received 226 electoral votes.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the US presidential election was held on November 5, 2024. Elections to both houses of the US Congress were also held on that day.
On November 6, Trump declared victory in the presidential election. He promised to "heal" America and make it "strong and prosperous."
