Zelenskyy answers whether he will run for second presidential term

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he will make a decision on running for a second term only after the war is over, and the elections will be held after the lifting of martial law.

Zelenskyy spoke about this in a podcast by American journalist Lex Fridman, published on January 5.

In particular, he noted that before the war ends, there is "no point" in talking about elections. Regarding a possible second term, Zelenskyy noted that this issue will be discussed with his family.

"This is a very difficult question. It depends on how this war ends. It all depends on what people want. It mainly depends on people, first of all - on my family," the President explained.

He added that he has not yet had the opportunity to seriously discuss this issue in the family circle.

"There was no possibility, because we are not thinking about it now... My family and I did not think about it seriously. This is a war. How can you think about what will happen next?! It is very difficult. Really, very difficult," Zelenskyy said.

He also stressed that holding elections during martial law is prohibited by law. Therefore, in his opinion, the elections will be held after the lifting of martial law.

"I believe that the elections will be held immediately after the lifting of martial law. This is provided for by law, otherwise the parliament will have to change the legislation, which will be extremely difficult, because society is against it. We want elections that can be trusted," Zelenskyy noted.
