Newly appointed military ombudsman explains what she did in occupied Crimea in 2015

Recently appointed to the position of Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Protection of the Rights of Servicemen and Family Members of Our Soldiers, Olha Reshetylova (Kobylynska), explained the purpose of her visit to the territory of Crimea occupied by russia in 2015.

The ombudsman published the corresponding post on her Facebook page.

After her appointment, social networks began to actively repost her post, made on December 23, 2015, in which Reshetylova poses with a camera against the background of the sea. The post also indicates the location: Alushta, Crimea.

According to Olha Reshetylova, she was in Crimea as a journalist.

"In December 2015, we went to Crimea (through the Ukrainian administrative border) to document the enforced disappearances of Crimeans, which resulted in several major investigations," the ombudsman said.

Reshetylova also reported that in 2016 she was in russia, namely in the city of Grozny.

"In March 2016, we went to Grozny for the trial of political prisoners Mykola Karpiuk and Stanislav Klykh. In a Ukrainian consulate car, accompanied by Ukrainian diplomats. I made materials about this for several publications," Reshetylova noted.

She also added links to media publications made based on the results of these trips.

Reshetylova emphasized that such trips were associated with danger, but she was proud of what she did.

"These were very dangerous trips. We could have easily not returned. But they were important, because at that time practically no one talked about what Russia was doing with the kidnapped Ukrainian civilians. And this had to be shown. I am proud of this work and the people who were there," the military ombudsman said.

As previously reported, on December 30, Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed Olha Reshetylova (Kobylynska) as the Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Protection of the Rights of Servicemen and Their Families. The President noted that Reshetylova is a well-known, experienced and effective Ukrainian human rights activist who has done a lot to build state institutions and support Ukrainians.
