EU will impose sanctions against russia for disinformation for the first time - Bloomberg
The European Union plans to impose sanctions against more than a dozen individuals and three organizations from russia for disinformation operations and other hybrid activities.
This is reported by Bloomberg with reference to the draft of the new sanctions package.
The sanctions provide for restrictions on employees and groups of russian intelligence, officials and media entrepreneurs. According to the publication, these measures will be part of a new sanctions regime approved earlier this year, which is aimed at combating russian disinformation and destabilizing activities worldwide.
In addition, the EU is preparing additional sanctions against Belarus. They will concern about 20 people accused of violating human rights or benefiting from cooperation with the regime of Alexander Lukashenko.
Both packages of sanctions are expected to be approved by EU foreign ministers during a meeting in Brussels on Monday. The event is timed to coincide with the elections scheduled to be held in Belarus next month.
