More than two-thirds of Ukrainians would support Ukraine's membership in NATO without occupied territories - poll
More than two-thirds of Ukrainians are ready to support Ukraine's phased membership in NATO, when the country's entry into the alliance follows the model of Germany.
This is evidenced by the results of a poll conducted by Info Sapiens on behalf of the New Europe Center.
According to Serhii Solodkyi, First Deputy Director of the New Europe Center, who participated in the presentation of the poll results, the idea of Ukraine's phased entry into NATO was supported by 70.3% of respondents.
It is noted that the difference from the historical example of Germany, which was divided into western and eastern parts during the Cold War, is that the invitation to the alliance should also extend to the territory of Ukraine occupied by the russian federation.
Among other conclusions of the poll:
- 34% of respondents believe that Ukraine will join the European Union in the next five years;
- 63% of Ukrainians approve of the pressure the US and EU are putting on Ukraine to overcome corruption;
- 57.2% of respondents believe that partners are not doing everything possible to help Ukraine win the war;
- 30.9% of respondents believe that the outcome of the conflict depends solely on Ukraine's partners;
- 69.2% trust the European Union the most.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in early December, Politico reported that several European countries had proposed dividing Ukraine into two parts, of which the western one could eventually become a member of NATO.
And in November, the American newspaper The Washington Post reported, citing sources, that in Europe, discussions are increasingly underway to end the war with Ukraine giving up some of its territories.
As we will recall, in August 2024, Czech President Petr Pavel stated that Ukraine could become a member of NATO even despite the occupation of part of its territory.
