Chancellor Scholz once again calls talks about potential German peacekeepers in Ukraine premature – Spiegel

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz repeated his words that he considers talks about the hypothetical participation of German military personnel in a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine premature.

His words are quoted by the German publication Spiegel.

Scholz said that "at this time" he considers debates about the possibility of German peacekeepers participating in Ukraine inappropriate.

"As long as hostilities continue, there will be no German troops in Ukraine. As for the period after that, the focus of discussions should be on security guarantees for Ukraine, so that Ukraine is sure that Russia will not attack it for the third time - after 2014 and 2022," Scholz said.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the German Chancellor also said that he believes in the possibility of agreeing with future U.S. President Donald Trump on a joint strategy for Ukraine and emphasized that nothing can be decided "over the heads" of Ukrainians.
