Russia loses 53 soldiers per square kilometer of captured Ukrainian territory - ISW

Analysts have found that the aggressor state in the current period of intensive offensive operations - throughout the fall - is losing about 53 soldiers per square kilometer of captured Ukrainian territory.

This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

"The Kremlin continues to suffer significant losses in manpower to achieve tactical successes in the western part of the Donetsk Region at the expense of russia's ongoing military efforts and the medium-term viability of the russian economy," the report says.

ISW referred to the UK Ministry of Defense, which reported the day before that the average daily losses of russian personnel in November 2024 reached a new historical maximum - 1,523 killed per day. And also for the first time, russian troops suffered more than 2,000 losses in one day.

Russian forces are estimated to have suffered 45,690 total casualties during November 2024, with the UK Ministry of Defense noting that November 2024 marked the fifth consecutive month in which russian casualties have increased.

It states that, according to geolocation data, russian forces advanced at a rate of approximately 27.96 square kilometers per day and captured a total of 839 square kilometers in Ukraine and the Kursk Oblast in November 2024.

Analysts have previously reported that russian forces suffered greater casualties in September and October 2024, with russian losses amounting to approximately 80,110 servicemen in exchange for approximately 1,517 square kilometers of territory captured in Ukraine and the Kursk Oblast over those two months.

"Thus, russian forces suffered approximately 125,800 casualties during the period of intensive offensive operations in September, October, and November 2024 in exchange for 2,356 square kilometers of captured territory. (Or approximately 53 russian casualties per square kilometer of captured Ukrainian territory)," ISW summarized.
