Rada calling on nuclear states to intensify efforts to stop russia's nuclear blackmail
The Verkhovna Rada has adopted an appeal to parliaments, governments of foreign states, and international organizations on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Budapest Memorandum.
This was announced by Yaroslav Zhelezniak, a member of the Holos parliamentary faction, on Telegram, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
A total of 287 MPs voted for draft resolution No. 12277, with a minimum required of 226.
The Verkhovna Rada calls on the UN General Assembly to consider the issue of the legal grounds for russia's membership in the UN, as well as the issue of the effectiveness of the guarantees provided under the Budapest Memorandum, while drawing attention to the need to develop specific mechanisms for the implementation of international security guarantees.
Ukrainian parliamentarians call on nuclear-weapon states to recognize russia's responsibility for violating security guarantees under the Budapest Memorandum, to intensify efforts to end russia's nuclear blackmail of the world, and to create an international mechanism for monitoring and accountability for compliance with security guarantees provided to states that have voluntarily renounced nuclear weapons.
The parliament calls on international partners to consider the possibility of providing Ukraine with special security guarantees along with the possibility of defense cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
The Verkhovna Rada calls on the parliaments of the member states of the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization to appeal to national governments to adopt a decision on inviting Ukraine to NATO and supporting Ukraine's accession to the European Union.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan denied information that the United States is considering the possibility of returning nuclear weapons to Ukraine.
