Sybiha calls on allies to urgently supply Ukraine with 20 additional HAWK, NASAMS and IRIS-T air defense systems
Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has called on allies to urgently supply Ukraine with at least 20 additional HAWK, NASAMS and IRIS-T air defense systems to strengthen Ukraine's energy stability in the winter.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced this, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"Ukraine urgently needs the supply of at least 20 additional HAWK, NASAMS or IRIS-T air defense systems. This will help avoid blackouts," he stressed.
It is noted that on December 3, during a visit to Brussels (Belgium), Sybiha will visit NATO headquarters and take part in a ministerial meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council.
During a press conference with the media, the Foreign Minister announced that the main topics of negotiations with NATO allies will include immediate military assistance, investments in the Ukrainian defense industry, support for Ukraine's energy system in the winter, and progress on Ukraine's path to NATO.
The Minister briefed journalists on the current situation on the battlefield and noted that it is difficult.
"We need to stop Russia and prevent its troops from advancing into our territory. Their logic is clear: they are trying to occupy as many territories as possible in order to strengthen their future negotiating position," he stressed.
Sybiha recalled moscow's hybrid attacks against a number of European states, as well as the involvement of Iran and North Korea in direct aggression against Ukraine.
The Minister stressed that Europe has found itself in a new reality of russian aggression, and called on the Allies to make strong decisions, in particular to provide Ukraine with the necessary number and range of weapons, as well as to strengthen the package of deterrence against russia.
Sybiha demonstrated the original of the Budapest Memorandum and noted that it is evidence that any long-term security solutions at the expense of Ukraine's security are unacceptable.
On December 2, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, during a visit to Ukraine, announced that Germany had transferred to Ukraine five complete sets of IRIS-T, three Patriot systems, more than 50 Gepard anti-aircraft systems with missiles, shells and spare parts to strengthen its air defense, and in December it is planned to deliver another IRIS-T system, a system for Patriot and Gepard.
He also promised that in 2025 Germany would also supply air defense systems, howitzers, combat and reconnaissance drones.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in November, Ukraine received a NASAMS air defense system from Canada.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, in an address dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Budapest Memorandum, stated that Ukraine insists on full membership in NATO, rejecting any alternatives due to the negative experience of the Budapest Memorandum.
