23,400 male students aged 30+ expelled from higher education institutions in April-August - Ministry of Education

In April-August, 23,400 male students aged over 30 were expelled from higher education institutions.

Deputy Minister of Education and Science Mykhailo Vynnytskyi announced this on Facebook, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"During the period from April to August 2024, 23,448 male students aged 30+ were expelled from higher education institutions in Ukraine. The reasons for expulsion are failure, failure to attend classes, and other. 5,805 applicants were expelled directly based on the results of inspections by the State Service for the Quality of Education, the rest - based on the results of the internal systems for ensuring the quality of education of the universities themselves," he said.

According to Vynnytskyi , those "students" who did not actually plan to study, but wanted to use this status to avoid other responsibilities, were expelled, the fact that they are no longer in the higher education system is a sign that the system is self-cleaning

He also noted that, at the request of the State Service for the Quality of Education, the National Police opened 8 criminal proceedings against officials of higher education institutions.

Vynnytskyi added that the Ministry of Education has deprived a number of higher education institutions of their licenses to conduct educational activities.

"We continue to fight unscrupulous businessmen who discredit higher education with their fake "institutions", which in 2023-2024 massively enrolled men of draft age (especially those aged 30+ and often in violation of license volumes), completely publicly declaring their prices for such actions. The Ministry of Education will not tolerate such profanation of the higher education system," he stressed.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on May 18, the law on mobilization came into force, which cancels the deferral from mobilization for applicants for another higher education.
