Rheinmetall and ICEYE transfer high-precision satellite images taken by SAR satellites to Ukraine
The German arms concern Rheinmetall and the SAR ICEYE satellite company began to transfer new satellite images to Ukraine in September of this year and at the beginning of October.
This is stated on the Rheinmetall website.
The companies report that SAR satellites have an advantage over conventional satellites in that they produce high-resolution images regardless of weather conditions or time of day. Also, the images of these satellites are very detailed and allow the identification of even the smallest objects on the earth's surface, which can give "a decisive advantage to the armed forces in observation, capture of targets, reconnaissance or their own positioning on the battlefield."
The Dusseldorf-based technology group announced its participation in the world's largest fleet of radar reconnaissance satellites in June 2024, and in September, Rheinmetall and ICEYE further intensified their cooperation. Rheinmetall has exclusively secured the rights to sell SAR satellites to military and government end customers in the German and Hungarian markets.
ICEYE works closely with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine to support Ukraine in the development of space defense. ICEYE also provides access to its array of SAR satellites, allowing Ukrainian forces to obtain radar satellite imagery of critical locations.
We will remind that the Rheinmetall military plant responded to the threats of Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov that their facility, which opened in Ukraine at the end of October, could become a target for russian attacks and stated that it was not the first time that it had received such threats from russia.
It will be recalled that earlier Ukraine ordered eight advanced surgical stations for the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the German concern Rheinmetall.
