Navy explains how russia uses Caspian flotilla to strike Ukraine

The russians often use the Caspian Sea for launching airstrikes.

This was announced by the spokesman of the Navy, Dmytro Pletenchuk, on the air of "We-Ukraine".

"Yes, there are also missile carriers in the Caspian Sea that can launch Kalibr missiles, but the russians more often use the Caspian Sea to launch strikes from the air. They enter this water area specifically and from there they have launch lines in order to fire at Ukraine. They are doing this most likely to prevent casualties among their own civilian population in the event of an accidental dropping of old missiles," he explained.

The Caspian Sea is one of the five locations where the russian Navy is based. They are generally believed to have four fleets and a flotilla.

"For us, this basin is important because the Azov-Black Sea region has a connection with the Caspian through the Volga–Don Canal. And there were facts when some units were transferred both there and back," Pletenchuk added.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on November 6, explosions rang out in the russian Kaspiysk. The port, where ships of the russian Navy are located, was under attack.

The Navy said whether russia will be able to transfer ships from the Mediterranean and Caspian Seas to the Black Sea.
