Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry responds to Polish Vice Prime Minister’s accusations on involving Poland in war with russia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reacted to the words of Polish Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Digitalization Krzysztof Gawkowski, who accused President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of trying to drag Poland into a war with russia.

"We are convinced that the shooting down of Russian missiles and drones, which approach Poland via the territory of Ukraine, over the territory of Ukraine but not Poland is in the interests of the security of Poland and its citizens," the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that russia is waging war not only against Ukraine, but also against the European security architecture in general, of which Poland is an important part. Therefore, overcoming russian aggression against Ukraine is a vital interest of Warsaw.

"Taking into account the numerous provocations, cyber attacks and violations of the sovereign airspace of Poland and other European states by Russian missiles and drones, to make statements on the alleged intentions of Ukraine to involve Poland or other countries into the war is considered at least unacceptable," the Ministry said in its response.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hopes that both countries will maintain and strengthen solidarity in the face of ongoing russian aggression.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on September 2, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radosław Sikorski, stated that Warsaw is obliged to shoot down russian missiles in the sky over Ukraine to protect its own state.

In response, Polish Foreign Ministry spokesman Paweł Wroński said that Sikorski's words were his personal opinion.
