Ukraine opens embassy in Oman

Ukraine opened an embassy in Oman.

This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"On Wednesday, October 23, in the Omani capital of Muscat, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, and Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi of Oman, took part in the opening ceremony of a new foreign diplomatic institution, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Sultanate of Oman," the message reads.

Sybiha emphasized that the opening of new embassies in the states of Africa and the Middle East is part of a broader foreign policy course to strengthen Ukraine's ties with the countries of the so-called "Global South".

He expressed his conviction that the opening of the diplomatic mission will bring bilateral relations between Ukraine and Oman to a qualitatively new level.

The minister noted that Oman is of strategic importance for Ukraine due to its geographical location, critical role in energy supply chains, place in the world energy market as a member of OPEC, opportunities to supply Ukrainian food to the countries of East Africa, an authoritative voice in the Gulf Cooperation Council.

The Embassy of Ukraine in Oman has become the eighth foreign diplomatic institution in the wave of expansion of Ukraine's diplomatic presence in Africa and the Middle East, which lasts from 2022.

As part of this large-scale wave of expansion of Ukraine's diplomatic presence, embassies have already started operating in Botswana, Ghana, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Mauritania, Mozambique and Rwanda.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Sybiha proposed to create a food hub in Oman for the export of Ukrainian products to the markets of East African countries.
