President of South Korea calls urgent meeting due to transfer of North Korean troops to russia
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol called an emergency security meeting to discuss the deployment of North Korean troops to aid russia's aggression in Ukraine.
This was reported by the Bloomberg agency on Friday, October 18.
According to Yeol, information was exchanged at the meeting about the recent transfer of North Korean troops to russia and their support for the war against Ukraine. The President of South Korea said that this deployment of troops poses a "serious threat" to the security of South Korea and the international community.
"If confirmed, the deployment would be a major step in Pyongyang's cooperation with Moscow after russian president vladimir putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un agreed in June to provide immediate military assistance if either was attacked. According to a South Korean defense document, North Korea has about 1.28 million active troops," the report said.
South Korean intelligence believes that North Korea has decided to send 12,000 troops to Ukraine, and that the transfer of troops has already begun.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on October 18, South Korean intelligence estimated the number of North Korean soldiers sent to war against Ukraine at 12,000.
Currently, there are about 11,000 North Korean servicemen in the east of the russian federation.
On October 18, the head of the intelligence center of the Estonian Defense Forces, Ants Kiviselg, said that the participation of North Korean soldiers will not change the situation at the front.
