Russian commanders encourage execution of Ukrainian POWs - ISW

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) records an increase in the number of executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) on the entire front line. Russian commanders are likely to "indulge, encourage or directly order" the executions.

This is stated in the summary of ISW, published on Monday, October 14.

"The largest single execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war occurred on October 1, when russian forces executed 16 Ukrainian prisoners of war in the Pokrovsk Axis. ISW continues to monitor footage and reports about how russian soldiers executing Ukrainian prisoners of war, and observes a broader trend of russian brutality against Ukrainian prisoners of war in various areas of the front, which appear to be tolerated, if not explicitly approved, by individual russian commanders," the analysts' report says.

ISW experts also note that russian military bloggers "mostly glorify" the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war.

"Russian bloggers have often glorified russian atrocities and brutality in Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion, and this glorification highlights a broader culture that likely encourages the systematic execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war," the analysts stress.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the DeepState service, citing sources in the 1st Separate Tank Brigade, reported that the russian military probably shot nine Ukrainian soldiers in the Kursk Oblast.
