Rada obliges media to insure journalists working at front
The Verkhovna Rada obliged mass media to insure journalists for the period of their business trip to areas of hostilities.
Iryna Herashchenko, co-chair of the European Solidarity faction, announced this on her Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
A total of 275 MPs voted for the bill No. 11153 with the minimum required 226.
According to the adopted decision, subjects in the field of media at the expense of their own funds or at the expense of any other sources not prohibited by law are obliged to provide insurance for the life, health, working capacity of journalists and other workers against an accident for the period of their business trip in military (combat) areas and/or temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
The procedure and conditions of such insurance are determined by the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications, in agreement with the National Bank.
The law enters into force one month from the day following its publication.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in March 2023, the Verkhovna Rada provided for the payment of a one-time financial aid to civil servants and journalists in the event that they are assigned a group of disabilities due to an injury received during the performance of official duties in connection with armed aggression against Ukraine, and also to family members of such persons in case of their death.
Meanwhile, the Verkhovna Rada allowed foreigners to hold officer positions in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
