Boris Johnson: putin would not invade Ukraine if Trump was President
Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that vladimir putin would not have invaded Ukraine if Donald Trump had been the President of the United States.
He said this in an interview with the British newspaper Telegraph.
The former Prime Minister is convinced that Trump's unpredictability would be enough to convince putin not to risk and go to war with a sovereign country.
"From the Kremlin's point of view, there was a real risk that Trump would interpret an attack on a European country as an insult to America and the world order, and might have come down hard," Johnson said.
According to Johnson, Trump is never shy about pointing out that russia's invasion of Ukraine happened on both sides of his presidency, not while he was President. And Johnson agrees that this is no accident.
"He sent out 60 russian spies [after the Salisbury poisonings]. He was much tougher on Syria than the Democrat administration. He was tougher on the IRGC [Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps - ed.], and then he gave the Javelin missile to the Ukrainians," Johnson recalled.
The former Prime Minister added that he is convinced that, in case of victory, Trump will not make concessions to putin.
"I don't think he wants to go down in history as the man, who started his second term as President not by making America great, but by making the Soviet Union great again. All human institutions need a leader. The world is led by America. And in my opinion, the world is a happier and more prosperous place, when you have a strong America and a strong leader and when people feel that some order is being maintained," Boris Johnson said.
He also added that he regularly communicates with both Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Previously, Johnson talked about his version of the peace plan for Ukraine, which provides for the return of the borders as of February 24, 2022, and the mandatory condition of which is Trump's victory in the election.
