Latvia deploys mobile air defense groups on border after fall of Shahed

The Ministry of Defense of Latvia has deployed mobile combat groups of the Air Force equipped with anti-aircraft missiles on the border. This decision was taken after the incident with the fall of a russian attack drone on the territory of the country.

Delfi writes about it.

After a russian drone crashed in the Rēzeknes pilsēta in early September, the Latvian National Armed Forces strengthened air defense on the eastern border by sending additional units there.

Thus, the Minister of Defense of Latvia Andris Sprūds said that mobile combat groups of the Air Force, equipped with anti-aircraft missiles, are stationed in Latgale. In addition, special radars designed to detect unmanned aerial vehicles are installed at the border.

"Air defense operations are provided both by military personnel of the professional service and soldiers of the state defense service," Sprūds said.

It will be recalled that earlier in Latvia they announced that on September 7, a russian Shahed filled with explosives flew to them.

After that, Latvia summoned a representative of the russian Embassy due to the incident with the drone.
