Hetmantsev denies that IMF requires Ukraine to devalue hryvnia
Member of Parliament from the Servant of the People faction, head of the parliamentary committee on finance, tax and customs policy, Danylo Hetmantsev, denies that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) demanded Ukraine to devalue the hryvnia.
He said this in an interview with the Ukrainian News Agency.
"I don't know where they (the media) got such information from. The IMF did not demand devaluation. This is a priori impossible," Hetmantsev said.
According to him, such a "demand" would be a violation of the principle of political independence of the National Bank, which the IMF strongly defends.
The head of the finance committee explained that during the work of its last mission, the IMF justified the need to increase taxes in order to avoid devaluation and emission.
"And I do not agree with the use of the term ``the IMF requires.'' We have a very constructive, partnership dialogue with the International Monetary Fund. Together we are looking for answers to very difficult questions. After all, even the IMF has no experience of working with a country in which a full-scale war has been going on for the third year. And despite this, we continue to carry out serious reforms, successfully revise the program again and again, fulfill "beacons," he added.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Hetmantsev said that the authorities do not consider hryvnia issuance or devaluation as an alternative to raising taxes.
