Brazil wants to impose Chinese peace plan regarding Ukraine and RF on countries of Global South - Reuters

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva declared his support for the Chinese plan to end the war between Ukraine and the aggressor country of russia. Earlier, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, called this proposal "destructive".

This is reported by the Reuters agency with reference to unnamed Brazilian diplomats.

The President of Brazil made this statement during his speech at the opening of the UN General Assembly. At the same time, he did not give any details of the plan.

The agency's interlocutors said that Lula's foreign policy adviser, Celso Amorim, intends to seek support for the plan from representatives of 20 countries at a meeting on Friday, September 27.

Countries of the Global South will take part in Friday's meeting, but not European governments, which are Ukraine's staunchest supporters.

Those invited include Colombia, Egypt, Indonesia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates.

"The intention is to listen to what these countries can bring, create a critical mass and consider these issues. Many countries want to listen, including the Europeans," one of the diplomats said.

It will be recalled that in March 2024, China called for a peace conference recognized by both Ukraine and russia. At it, according to Beijing's plan, the parties could "fairly" discuss the conclusion of a peace treaty.

Earlier this year, Beijing presented its peace plan to end the war between Ukraine and the russian federation.

It should be noted that the Chinese peace plan calls for the de-escalation of the situation and the resumption of direct dialogue, without demanding a retreat from russia.
