Contaminated water from Desna may reach the Kyiv Region on September 14-16.
This was announced by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
At the same time, the Ministry assures that the situation with the movement of pollution from Desna in the direction of the Kyiv Region is under control, all services have strengthened monitoring and control over water quality.
"According to the updated forecast data of the Ukrhydrometeorological center, contaminated water can roughly reach the Kyiv Region on September 14-16. All services are working to stabilize the situation. In particular, the Ministry of Environment is cooperating with Kyivvodokanal PrJSC on the development of a set of measures in case of a possible deterioration of water quality near drinking water intakes," the message says.
It is noted that if the quality of water deteriorates, Kyivvodokanal is ready to immediately adjust the technological processes so that the indicators of the quality of drinking water meet the requirements of the State Sanitary Norms and Rules.
At the same time, the Ministry of Environment emphasizes that there are currently no such risks.
Regarding the situation with water quality in Desna, it is noted that as of the morning of September 10, pollution has moved approximately 191 km (near the village of Shestovytsia) from the confluence of the Seim River into Desna. During a visual inspection, pollution is fixed at a point and does not have a uniform character.
In the area of Shestovytsia, there is a darkening of the water, a specific smell, accumulation of shallow fish under the shore, isolated cases of fish deaths, downstream - no signs of pollution have been recorded.
In the Chernihiv Region, the improvement of the situation and isolated facts of the death of fish are recorded.
As a whole, along Desna in the Chernihiv Region, pollution continues to move along the riverbed, the worst indicators are recorded in the villages of Boromyky and Chernihiv.
In the Seim River in the Sumy and Chernihiv Regions, the situation is gradually improving, the content of dissolved oxygen is slowly increasing, but it is still below the norm.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, an action plan is being prepared in Kyiv in case of deterioration of water quality due to pollution of the Desna River.
On August 29, the State Commission on Technological and Environmental Safety and Emergency Situations decided to extend the ban on swimming and fishing in the Seim and Desna Rivers and instructed to localize and eliminate pollution on these rivers.
The State Fishery Agency of Ukraine reported that starting on August 14, russian terrorists caused large-scale pollution of the reservoir by probably dumping waste of unknown substances into the Seim River.
