Overhead power lines can be placed underground to protect against shelling - Energy Ministry

Overhead power lines in Ukraine may be moved underground to protect them from russian fire. This is one of the options currently under consideration.

Deputy Minister of Energy Mykola Kolisnyk announced this on the air of the telethon.

"Transferring lines underground is potentially one of the options. To date, a significant number of technical solutions and projects for the physical protection of energy infrastructure objects have been developed in order to secure them," the deputy minister said.

He added that energy workers are trying to equip the first and second levels of physical protection of energy facilities as soon as possible.

"Despite the enemy's constant attacks on civil energy infrastructure facilities, energy workers constantly restore damaged facilities and create additional protection systems for these facilities," Kolisnyk said.

The official added that in order to ensure physical protection and restoration of damaged objects, financing is needed both from the state budget and at the expense of international aid.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, hundreds of MW of the planned 1 GW of new gas generation for 2024 have already been built, and 600 MW have been financed.

Former adviser to the Minister of Energy Lana Zerkal believes that it is impossible to build up to one gigawatt of gas shunting generation in six months and another 4 gigawatts in the coming years, as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated at the Ukraine Recovery Conference.
