NATO responds to Polish Foreign Minister’s call to "shoot down russian missiles"

NATO recognizes the right of member countries to defend their airspace from attacks, but warns of possible consequences for the Alliance as a whole if the countries begin to shoot down missiles of the aggressor country on the Ukrainian border, as demanded by Poland.

Europa Press reported this on Monday, September 2.

"NATO is responsible for preventing the further escalation of Russia's war against Ukraine. NATO is not a party to the conflict and will not become a party to the conflict," the spokesman of the Alliance said.

According to him, although each NATO member has the right to defend its airspace, the actions of individual members of the Alliance in support of Ukraine "may also affect NATO as a whole."

"That is why the Allies must continue close consultations," the NATO spokesman emphasized.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on September 2, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radosław Sikorski, stated that Warsaw is obliged to shoot down russian missiles in the sky over Ukraine to protect its own state.

In response, Polish Foreign Ministry spokesman Paweł Wroński said that Sikorski's words were his personal opinion.

Recall that on the night of August 25-26, a russian kamikaze drone flew into the airspace of Poland.
