It is necessary to build over 10 GW of generation in the coming years to build sustainable energy system - Kudrytskyi

In order to build a power system resistant to possible russian attacks, more than 10 GW of generation must be built in the next few years, which requires EUR 12-13 billion of investment.

This was announced by the press service of Ukrenergo, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

According to the chairman of the board of Ukrenergo, Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, in order to build a system resistant to possible attacks, in the next few years, Ukraine needs to build 4 GW of new wind power plants; 3.8 GW of solar power plants; 1.4 GW of gas generation capacity; 1.1 GW capacity of new TPPs on biofuel; 0.8 GW of energy storage facilities.

"In order for all this to be built, about EUR 12-13 billion are needed. It is impossible to implement such large-scale changes without attracting private investment. Therefore, economic prerequisites are needed so that business and communities are interested in building a new decentralized energy system. Such conditions are created by the decisions of the government and the Energy Commission, at the suggestion of Ukrenergo, which made it possible to implement the mechanism of long-term auctions," he said.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Ukrenergo announced on August 15 and 22 the first long-term auctions for the purchase of auxiliary services for balancing the energy system.

Auxiliary services are the readiness of the power plant to change production capacity at the command of the dispatcher, which makes it possible to ensure the stability of the power system.

Ukraine intends to build 1 GW of flexible gas generation in 2024 and another 4 GW in the coming years.
