Lithuania allocates more than EUR 8.5 million to support Ukrainian refugees
Last week, the Lithuanian government allocated almost EUR 9 million to help Ukrainian refugees in the country.
This is reported by LRT.
Thus, from the funds borrowed on behalf of the state, the Lithuanian government allocated EUR 8.7 million to the Ministry of Social Protection and Labor to help Ukrainians. Also, almost EUR 10,000 was allocated to the Ministry of Health.
It is indicated that the money will be used for the payment of child benefits, social assistance for schoolchildren, social benefits, partial coverage of heating and water supply costs, the support of housing rental, etc.
The Ministry of Social Protection and Labor informed BNS that Lithuania allocated a total of over EUR 114 million from the state budget to help Ukrainians in Lithuania.
According to the Central Bank of Lithuania, Ukrainian refugees created about 1% of the country's GDP last year, and Ukrainians who found refuge in Lithuania paid almost EUR 60 million in taxes to the Lithuanian budget by March 2023.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Lithuanian government will no longer cover the costs of education for refugees from Ukraine. It is indicated that this is "the desire of the Ukrainian side". At the same time, some universities said that Ukrainian students will still be able to study for free.
