Media report that Houthis downed American MQ-9 Reaper UAV in the north of Yemen
The Yemeni Houthis (military group "Ansar Allah") allegedly shot down an American reconnaissance-strike UAV MQ-9 Reaper.
The Israeli publication The Times of Israel writes about this with reference to an unconfirmed report from Lebanon.
The day before, the publication Al-Mayadeen, which works in the interests of the Lebanese organization "Hezbollah", reported that the Houthis shot down an American drone in the north of Yemen.
There is currently no official confirmation of this information. The US Department of Defense has not yet commented on it.
The Times of Israel notes that the Yemeni Houthis also launched a missile attack on a commercial vessel in the Gulf of Aden.
The attack was the first in recent weeks, after Israel's air force carried out a series of strikes on Houthi targets.
The Houthis also did not comment on the reason for the two-week pause in attacks on commercial vessels.
The publication notes that similar interruptions have been observed several times since they began in November 2023 against the background of the start of the war between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas.
The MQ-9 Reaper is a reconnaissance-strike UAV developed by the American company General Atomics Aeronautical Systems for use by the US Army and the British Air Force.
The drone made its first flight on February 2, 2001. The cost of one such drone is approximately USD 30 million.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in March 2023, in the sky over the Black Sea, an aircraft of the russian occupation army made a dangerous maneuver near the MQ-9 Reaper flying by.
As a result, the drone was critically damaged, which forced the Americans to shoot it down.
We will remind, after that, the US European Command (USEUCOM) published a video of the incident in the Black Sea, as a result of which the MQ-9 Reaper drone was lost.
