Trump says he is absolutely ready for debates with Harris
Former US President Donald Trump has said he is "absolutely" ready to debate Vice President Kamala Harris, adding that he would be open to debate with her more than once.
This is reported by NBC News.
"I agreed to debates with Joe Biden. But I want to debate with her, and she will be no different because they have the same politics. I would be willing to have more than one debate," Trump told reporters at a press conference organized by the National Committee of the Republican Party.
Trump and Biden previously agreed to hold two debates, one in June on CNN and the other in September on ABC. Biden's performance at the June debate was assessed as weak.
It will be recalled that on July 21, US President Joseph Biden announced his decision to withdraw from the presidential race.
At the same time, Trump "left the door open" to abandoning plans for a debate on ABC, calling the channel "fake news."
"I'm not happy with the ABC. They've made a commitment, but at least I have an equal say and I don't like the idea of the ABC," he said.
In particular, on Sunday, he suggested in a post on Truth Social that Fox News should host the debate instead.
Asked if Harris would be a tougher opponent than Biden, Trump told reporters that "I think they're probably similar."
"She is the same as Biden, but much more radical. She is a radical left-wing person, and this country does not want a radical left-wing person to destroy it," Trump said.
Trump also stood by his decision to pick Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio as his running mate, even though it has not yet been decided who Vance will face in the upcoming vice presidential debate.
"I would have made the same choice. He's doing very well," Trump said of Vance.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, after announcing his withdrawal from the presidential race, Biden approved the candidacy of Vice President Kamala Harris for the position of presidential candidate from the Democratic Party.
On July 21, Trump said that, in his opinion, Vice President Kamala Harris will be easier to defeat in the November election than the incumbent Democratic President Joe Biden.
At the same time, Harris was two percentage points ahead of the US presidential candidate from the Republican Party, Donald Trump, in a national poll.
In addition, Trump said Vice President Kamala Harris is "vicious and dumb," calling it a "bad combination."
