NATO appoints special representative in Ukraine. What will he do?

Patrick Turner has been appointed senior NATO representative in Ukraine.

This was announced by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

Turner will begin his duties in Kyiv in September 2024.

He will "act as a coordinator of NATO's interaction with the Ukrainian authorities in Kyiv", as well as "coordinate NATO's efforts and provide the Alliance with assessments and advice on the situation in Ukraine."

Prior to his appointment, Turner served as NATO Assistant Secretary General for Operations and Defense Policy and Planning, and held a number of senior civil service positions in the UK.

"It is a great honor for me to be appointed to the position of senior NATO representative in Ukraine. I look forward to the opportunity to lead the NATO mission and work closely with the Ukrainian authorities, as well as with members and partners of the Alliance to provide NATO support to Ukraine," Turner commented.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, NATO will invite Ukraine to the Alliance when all allies agree and Kyiv fulfills all the necessary conditions.
