Poroshenko Expects Sanctions On Russians That Supported Crimea Annexation, Escalation Of Donbas Conflict To Be Broadened

President Petro Poroshenko expects the sanctions against the Russian citizens that supported the annexation of Crimea and the escalation of the conflict in Donbas to be broadened.

Poroshenko was speaking at a news briefing in Chernihiv.

"A decision of the National Security and Defense Council, which will broaden the sanctions against individual Russian citizens that actively participated in the occupation of Crimea and the aggression in the east, will come out in the near future," said Poroshenko.

In particular, according to Poroshenko, the sanctions will involve freezing of bank accounts and assets.

The president stressed that Ukraine is synchronizing its actions in this area with the European Union.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, at an emergency meeting on January 25 the National Security and Defense Council approved the sanctions that the European Union, Switzerland, the United States, and the Group of Seven industrialized countries (the G7) imposed on Russia earlier.
