The Supreme Court of the Russian Federation has declared the Ukrainian party Right Sector an extremist organization and prohibited its activity in the RF, Court press secretary Pavel Odintsov has told Ukrainian News Agency.
"Today the court has made a decision and prohibited Right Sector's activity in Russia. The session was covert, which means no mass media were allowed," he said.
Moreover, the court prohibited activity of other nationalistic Ukrainian organizations, in particular UNA-UNSO (Ukrainian National Assembly - Ukrainian People's Self-Defence) and Stepan Bandera Trident.
Odintsov underlines that the judgment can be challenged on appeal.
The press service of the Prosecutor-General's Office of the Russian Federation says that in addition to the said organizations the Ukrainian Rebel Army (UPA) and Bratstvo were declared extremist.
"Extremist activity of the said Ukrainian organizations encroaches on foundations of the constitutional order of the RF and its territorial integrity, entails infringement of rights and liberties of human being and citizen, personal tort, bodily injury on citizens, infliction of harm on public peace and public security," said Russian Prosecutor-General's Office.
The agency accuses Ukrainian patriotic organizations of propaganda of violence on political, ethnic and religious grounds, and also of pointed Russophobia of their ideology.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, at a congress on March 22 alliance of radical parties and Ukrainian patriot organizations Right Sector decided to become a political party, and in May the State Registration Service changed UNA-UNSO's name on the register for Right Sector.
