USA Points To Signs Of Ukraine's Economic Progress

Biden pointed to importance of Ukraine's fulfilment of obligations to the IMF to continue support.

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden announced this at a news briefing joint with President Petro Poroshenko in Kyiv, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"The President and I discussed the progress Ukraine has achieved recently, it approved critically important reforms. We already discern signs of economic progress: GDP is rising, industrial production is growing, the amount of export of agricultural commodities is increasing," Biden said.

He also pointed to importance of Ukraine's fulfilment of obligations to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to continue support.

The Vice President underlines: Ukraine's obligations to the IMF need adoption of difficult political decisions not only by the President but by the Parliament too.

USA understands how hard it is to overcome absence of economic progress in the last decades, he emphasised.

Biden assures of USA's backing further economic progress in Ukraine and promises to be Ukraine's ally in the talks with the IMF.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Biden arrived in Ukraine on a two-day visit for meetings with officials.

He is delivering a speech to the Verkhovna Rada on December 8.
