Defense Ministry: 8,390 Russian Troops In Donbas

Andrii Lukiyanets, the director of the Defense Ministry's department of general intelligence, announced this on the Channel 5 television station.

"The total number of occupiers remains unchanged. They are slightly more than 8,000 people, according to our calculations: 8,390 to be precise," he said.

According to intelligence information, Russian military personnel in Donbas have withdrawn from the line of separation deeper into the territory, toward the Ukrainian-Russian border.

At the same time, according to Lukiyanets, militants increased the number of attacks on the positions of the antiterrorist forces on 2 November.

He said that about 50 attacks were registered during this time.

According to the Ministry of Defense, militants have begun using a new tactic, which involves groups of 20-30 people in 2-3 vehicles moving to the line of separation, firing on the positions of Ukrainian troops, and withdrawing deep into the militant-controlled territory.

Lukiyanets said that militants might be using the deterioration of the situation in the ATO zone to exert pressure on Ukraine ahead of a meeting of the foreign affairs ministers of Ukraine, France, Germany, and Russia.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the General Staff of the Armed Forces said in September that 8,500 Russian troops were in Donbas.

The foreign affairs ministers of Ukraine, France, Germany, and Russia began talks in Berlin on Friday.
