Infrastructure Minister Andrii Pyvovarskyi has confirmed that flights between Ukraine and Russia will be terminated at 00:00 on October 25 because of the sanctions that Ukraine imposed on several Russian airlines.
Pyvovarskyi was speaking on the sidelines of a Ukrainian-German business forum in Berlin.
"Flights between the two countries will not exist from October 25," he said.
Pyvovarskyi explained that Ukraine's State Aviation Service and Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) held technical consultations in Brussels (Belgium) on Friday, but he added that the consultations would not affect Ukraine's earlier decision to terminate air links with Russia on October 25.
He noted that Rosaviatsia has banned Ukrainian airlines from operating flights to Russia in response to Ukraine's sanctions.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Ukrainian delegation at the technical consultations included the State Aviation Service's acting Chairman Eduard Demin, UkSATSE's Director Dmytro Babiichuk, and director of the Foreign Ministry's department of the European Union Vsevolod Chentsov.
The press service said that the two sides outlined their positions during the technical consultations and that the Ukrainian delegation will submit the received information to the Minister of Infrastructure and the country's leadership after returning from Germany.
Decisions regarding the next steps will be based on this information.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Russia intends to hold talks with Ukraine on air links between the two countries in Brussels on October 24.
The State Aviation Service has banned the Russian airlines on Ukraine's sanction list from flying to Ukraine from October 25.
Rosaviatsia has banned Ukrainian airlines from flying to Russia from October 25.
The National Security and Defense Council's decision that imposed personal sanctions on Russian individuals and legal entities entered into force on September 22.
The sanctioned entities include the companies Aeroflot, Transaero, Kaspersky Lab, Doctor Web, Gazprom Bank, MSL Lottery, the First Freight Company, the Kerch seaport, the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK), the Channel One television channel, and the NTV television channel.
