The State Emergency Situations Service has extinguished the fire in the Chornobyl exclusion zone, Service Deputy Chairman Mykola Chechotkin has told a news briefing.
At the moment only stumps, grass and forest carpet are smouldering.
Rescuers keep watching the accident area from a helicopter.
Three planes and a helicopter were engaged in the extinguishing.
Chechotkin remarks, the first report on conflagration in the Chornobyl exclusion zone was made at about 12:00 on April 28, when some 270 hectares of forest had been already on fire.
At 10:30 on April 29 the fire was contained.
Background radiation in the exclusion zone did not elevate.
By May 2 the Emergencies Service will have finished the inflammation area in the Chornobyl exclusion zone.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Emergencies Service believes that the fire in the Chornobyl exclusion zone was caused by arson or careless handling of fire.
