Obama Favors Diplomatic Resolution Of Conflict In Ukraine

"We continue to encourage a diplomatic resolution to this issue (the conflict in Ukraine)," said Obama.

United States President Barack Obama favors diplomatic resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.

Obama said this at a joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Washington (United States).

"We continue to encourage a diplomatic resolution to this issue (the conflict in Ukraine)," said Obama.

The United States president said that sanctions against Russia would remain in force until it fully complies with its obligations, particularly the agreements reached in Minsk (Belarus) in September 2014.

Merkel said that Germany and France intend to promote a peaceful solution to the conflict in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

In addition, Obama said during the press conference that the United States intended to continue assisting Ukraine in implementing economic reforms.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, 15 United States senators representing the Democratic and Republican parties have called on Obama to increase military assistance to Ukraine.

United States Vice President Joseph Biden has ruled out military resolution of the conflict in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions but said that the United States would continue security cooperation with Ukraine.
