The Defence Ministry denies that the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was shot down by separatists on July 17 in Donetsk region from the Buk missile system, stolen from a Ukrainian military unit, reads a statement made by the agency press service.
The Defence Ministry remarks that German magazine Der Spiegel reported that the jetliner was downed using namely the Buk missile system captured in a Ukrainian military unit.
The agency states that the personnel, equipment and weaponry of the surface to air-missile regiment, deployed in Donetsk region, by the Air Force Component Commander's decision of June 29 were promptly relocated to another area for accomplishment of objectives.
Meanwhile, when terrorists entered the territory of the military unit's command only outdated and unusable automotive equipment was left there.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was downed in Donetsk Region on July 17 near Torez.
The crash killed 298 people.
