The law permits institutions of local government to form volunteer civilian patrols of citizens permanently residing in the said territories, charged with the functions of maintenance of public order.

President Petro Poroshenko has signed into law the bill establishing a special status for several districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, reads a statement made by the President's press service.

The law permits institutions of local government to form volunteer civilian patrols of citizens permanently residing in the said territories, charged with the functions of maintenance of public order.

Moreover, the law makes provision for accomplishment of measures by local bodies of self-government and executive power to promote use of the Russian and other languages in education, mass media, proceedings at law, and other spheres of social life.

Besides, the law envisages provision of government aid to the socio-economic development of separate districts by adoption of an economic treatment of carrying out business and investment operations other than the general one, directed at reconstruction of the industry, infrastructure, housing stock, and creation of jobs.

Final provisions of the law stipulate a Cabinet of Ministers order on preparing relevant bills and subordinate regulatory legal acts with participation of local authorities.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, on September 16, the Verkhovna Rada set a special status for several districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
