Oettinger Opposing Introduction Of Sanctions Against Russia's Gas Sector

"To me it is better to avoid sanctions against the gas sector", Oettinger said.

European Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger opposes introduction of sanctions against the gas sector of Russia, he has told a press conference.

"To me it is better to avoid sanctions against the gas sector... Daily supplies of gas, reliable supplies in gas and energy sector on the whole should not be a political instrument," Oettinger said.

At the same time, he noted that the EU advocates the idea of provision of gas supplies under common transparent rules not only to 28 EU member countries but also to partner countries such as Ukraine.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Ukraine intends to introduce sanctions against Russia in October.
