The anti-terrorist operation (ATO) forces have begun preparing for retraction of heavy armament to the 15km mark from the line of battle action, National Security and Defence Council information centre spokesman Andrii Lysenko has told a news briefing.

He remarks that on September 21 the ATO forces commenced implementation of the accords achieved in Minsk, Belarus, concerning the retraction of heavy armament to a certain distance.

First the ATO forces back off artillery and armored fighting vehicles with weaponry with calibres equal to and larger than 100mm.

Lysenko remarks that use of heavy armament in the ATO zone has been subsiding recently.

However, the NSDC says that retraction of heavy armament will not entail step-back of the ATO forces from their positions.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, on September 19 in Minsk the trilateral contact group for settlement of the situation in Donbas agreed two-side cessation of fire and withdrawal of heavy armament at least 15km from the line of battle action, in particular artillery systems with calibres larger than 100mm.
