Obama Rejects Ukraine Status Of U.S. Major Non-NATO Ally - Poroshenko

President Petro Poroshenko says President of the United States Barack Obama has rejected granting Ukraine status of major U.S. ally outside the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), he said at CNN.

"President Obama's answer was 'No'," said Poroshenko in response to the question about the U.S. President's reaction at Poroshenko's call to a joint session of both U.S. Congress Houses for granting Ukraine status of U.S. major non-NATO ally.

The head of Ukrainian state explains that Obama said no because the United States and Ukraine already have a distinct status of bilateral cooperation.

Poroshenko underlines that the level of defence and security cooperation between the two countries is now much higher than it is possible for a non-NATO ally, such as Argentina for instance.

However, Poroshenko says Ukraine has received from the United States more than asked.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Poroshenko urged the United States to grant Ukraine status of major non-NATO ally.
