Leadership of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) points to the need of building 1,500km of fighting and communications trenches for installing reinforcing obstacle systems, reads a statement made by the ATO press centre on Facebook.

"On instruction from President Petro Poroshenko began performance of top-priority work for raising field defences on certain marks. Plan to create two defensive lines, their primary purpose is to prevent the enemy from penetration into Ukraine's territory," it said.

According to the statement, the bulk work is to dig 1,500km of fighting and communications trenches, over 8,000 entrenchments, to build over 4,000 dug-outs and 60km of passive obstacles.
